PowerPoint or Keynote: what will you choose?
Presentations, graphic designInformation without presentation is like clay: it exists in abundance, but it becomes interesting only when it is processed, shaped and decorated.
There are a lot of tools for making presentations. We will take a look at some most popular ones what my clients choose.
PowerPoint is a classic editor for making good presentations.
Pros: if you know how to handle Word, then you can cope with the PowerPoint. PowerPoint presentation can be opened using Google Disk. This one allows you to simplify most actions; you just need to configure 2-3 templates, and then simply copy styles and slides. It can be saved to pdf. Cons: there are too many tools inside, which practically nobody uses, the required function can be difficult to find. To make a neat slide, you have to work hard.
Keynote is a lightweight version of PowerPoint for Macs.
Pros: there are only the necessary editing tools that you will definitely use. Unlike PowerPoint, you’re not lost here. You can save the result in the .pptx format, which can be opened on any gadget. However, in this case, the slides and formatting can go a bit.
Cons: it works only on Mac.
In the last one, it is easier to make slides, because its functionality is reduced to the most necessary minimum. PowerPoint is overloaded and requires two or three clicks for one action instead of one click in Keynote. In seconds, it’s a bit: two against five, but when you have several dozen slides, the loss of time is surprising. Personally, I work only in Keynote for layouts design, but for creating part of presentations such as infographics, stylized icons or various photo processing I use professional graphics editors. After that, I include these graphics in layout presentations in Keynote. And only then convert from Keynote to PowerPoint, if the client needs this format.
You ask why I use Keynote or PowerPoint for layout presentations. It is a tool that my client can use to coordinate work with the presentation to make minor adjustments to the text or to the sequence.
A good presentation always has a long-term effect — your report will be remembered, and the presentation will be saved. For the desired effect, it is better to use the services of a graphic designer. The expert will prepare a presentation in accordance with the company’s brand book, will create a bright unusual concept and individual graphics, specially designed for the presentation.
Graphic presentations facilitate complex topics. Do you need to give an idea about the most exciting beauty product, the full services list of your agency, or maybe about the Hadron Collider? Use the graphic presentation to make your story clearer and more engaging.
